Morocco to raise $6 Billion for new Phosphate City

The Moroccan Finance Ministry announced that it will raise $6 billion of capital from a new Phosphate City as part of a strategy to boost FDI in 2010. The new City will be the center of phosphate exports, fertilizers and phosphoric acid.
Morocco will be holding a tender for potential invenstors to raise capital for building the main phosphate pipe. Phosphate, are a key GDP driver for Morocco, along with remittances, tourism and agriculture.

Burundi carriers form Africa's first national infrastructure consortium to develop fibre backbone

The fiber will connect Mauritania to Morocco via a terrestrial fibre link. Maroc Telecom is currently rolling out a link from Laayoune in the south of Morocco to Nouakchott the capital of Mauritania. This link is 60 per cent completed and will be ready for use by the end of this year. The length of this link is about 3,000km (over 2,000 km in Morocco and about 700 km in Mauritania).

Number of Tourists visiting Morocco up by 14% versus 2009

While the tourist sector was and still is the hardest hit by the global recession, Morocco is enjoying a healthy flow of tourist to the nation's attractive landscapes.

French tourists topped the list (386,000), followed by Spaniards (227,000) and Brits with (57,000).

For their part, tourism receipts rose to MAD 6.52 billion (about USD 778.5 million) in the same period, registering an increase of 10.5% compared to the same period last year.
